You can manage your hosted videos by chatting with ChatGPT. Ask it to list your videos, rename one, make something private, hand you an embed code or start a new upload, and it does the work in your Vidreno account for you. This guide covers how to connect, what the assistant can and cannot touch, how uploads work and how to disconnect.
New to connecting assistants? Start with the MCP overview. Using Claude instead? Follow the dedicated Claude setup guide.
Before you start
- You need a Vidreno creator account. Advertiser and viewer accounts can't connect, and the approval screen will tell you so.
- Vidreno connects through the Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI apps to tools and data. The steps below are for ChatGPT; the MCP overview explains what other clients need.
- The connection covers hosted videos only. Vidreno on Demand films stay out of reach, and so do billing and earnings. There's a full list further down.
Add Vidreno to ChatGPT
ChatGPT has renamed its menus a few times this year, so the labels you see may differ a little from the ones here. OpenAI's own guide to connecting and managing app accounts always shows the current layout.
- In ChatGPT, open Settings and find the apps section. Depending on your plan it's called Apps, Plugins or Connectors.
- If Vidreno is listed there, select it, choose Connect and skip ahead to the next section.
- If it isn't listed yet, turn on Developer mode. On personal plans the switch lives in Settings, either under Security and login or in the Advanced settings at the bottom of the apps page. On Business and Enterprise plans an admin may need to turn it on for you.
- Choose Create (or the plus button) and enter the connection details below.
- Save the connection and use Sign in or Authenticate if prompted, then approve access in Vidreno as described in the next section.
You don't need to enter a bearer token or add any headers. Vidreno uses OAuth: sign in to your Vidreno account and approve the connection when prompted.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Name | Vidreno |
| Type/transport | Streamable HTTP |
| Server URL | https://vidreno.com/mcp |
| Authentication | OAuth (if the app offers a choice) |
| Bearer token env var | Leave empty |
| Headers | Leave empty |
| Headers from environment variables | Leave empty |
Developer mode is ChatGPT's switch for adding a connection yourself instead of picking one from its directory. It only affects your own ChatGPT account. OpenAI describes it in full in its developer mode guide.
Using Claude? Follow the Claude setup guide. For other AI apps, check the connection requirements in the MCP overview and your app's own documentation.
Sign in and approve the connection
The first time an app connects, Vidreno opens a window of its own.
- Sign in with your usual Vidreno email and password if you aren't signed in already. No account yet? You can create one from the same window and you'll land straight back on the approval screen.
- Read the approval screen. It names the app asking for access, lists exactly what the app will be allowed to do, and shows which Vidreno account you're connecting as.
- Choose Approve to finish or Deny to cancel. After approving, you're sent back to the app.
The two permissions on the screen cover everything the assistant can ever do:
- See your hosted videos, their settings, embed codes and analytics.
- Rename, describe, change the visibility of, delete and upload videos.
If the account shown under Connecting as isn't the one you meant, sign out of Vidreno in the dashboard, then start connecting again. See signing in to your account if you've forgotten which email you used.
Only approve a connection you started yourself. If an approval screen appears when you weren't connecting anything, choose Deny.
What the assistant can and cannot do
| The assistant can | The assistant cannot |
|---|---|
| List and search your hosted videos | Send you a video file through the chat |
| Read a video's title, description, visibility, size, duration and view count | See or change Vidreno on Demand films or their sales |
| Rename a video, edit its description, switch it between public and private, change its player colour or category | See your plan, invoices or payment details |
| Build an embed code with player options (autoplay, muted, loop, controls, corner radius, size) | See earnings, payouts or advertiser data |
| Read your account summary and analytics | See anyone else's account or videos |
| Store a video you attach in ChatGPT, or hand you a link to upload one from your browser | Delete a video without asking you to confirm first |
In plain words: the connection reaches your hosted videos and nothing else. Everything the assistant does happens in your account exactly as if you'd done it in the dashboard, so a rename or a visibility change shows up in your library immediately, and deleting is as permanent as deleting a video yourself. That's why the assistant always asks you to confirm before it deletes anything.
When you ask for something that needs it, the assistant receives your account email and username, plus your videos' titles, descriptions, visibility, sizes, durations, thumbnails and view counts. The Connections to AI assistants section of our privacy policy lists exactly what is shared, what Vidreno stores about the connection and how long tokens last. Whatever the assistant receives is also handled by the AI service you're using, under that service's own privacy terms. OpenAI explains how ChatGPT treats information from connected apps in Connected apps in ChatGPT.
Things to try
Once connected, just ask. If ChatGPT doesn't pick the Vidreno connection on its own, mention Vidreno in your message or choose it from the tools menu. A few prompts to start with:
- "List my videos"
- "Which Vidreno account is connected?"
- "Give me a responsive embed code for Studio tour that autoplays muted"
- "Rename it to Studio tour, March edit"
- "Make it private"
- "Set the player colour to #22d3ee"
- "How are my videos doing?"
- "Delete it" (the assistant will ask you to confirm before anything is removed)
- "Upload a new video called Studio tour"
- Attach a video file to your message and say "Upload this to Vidreno as Spring promo"
The assistant remembers which video you were talking about within a conversation, so "it" works fine once you've named a video.
How uploads work
There are two ways to upload through the assistant.
Attach the file in ChatGPT. Attach a video to your message (up to 512 MB, the size ChatGPT itself allows per file) and ask the assistant to upload it, with a title if you like. ChatGPT hands the file to Vidreno, which copies it straight into your library. Small files are usually ready before the assistant replies; for larger ones the assistant tells you the upload is in progress and can check on it until it's done. If the file isn't a video, is too large, or wouldn't fit in your plan's storage, nothing is uploaded and the assistant tells you why.
Use an upload link. Attaching a video only works in ChatGPT. In Claude and other AI apps the upload link is the only route, as the Claude guide explains. When you can't attach the file in the chat, the assistant gives you a link instead:
- Ask the assistant to upload a video. Give it a title, and if you like a description and whether the video should be public or private.
- It replies with a link to an upload page on vidreno.com. Open the link in your browser while signed in to the same Vidreno account.
- The page shows what the assistant asked for. Drop your file in or click to browse, exactly as when uploading from the dashboard.
- When the upload finishes, go back to the chat and tell the assistant it's done. It fetches the new video and can give you the embed code straight away.
Upload links are personal and short lived:
- Each link works for about an hour and for a single upload. If it has expired, ask the assistant for a new one.
- A link only works while you're signed in as the connected account. If the page says the link isn't valid for your account, check which account you're signed in with.
- The usual storage limits and supported formats apply, just as for any other upload.
Whichever way you upload, the title, description and visibility you gave the assistant are applied when the upload finishes. You can change any of them afterwards from the video page, or ask the assistant to.
Disconnect at any time
To stop ChatGPT reaching your account:
- In ChatGPT, open Settings and the apps section (Apps, Plugins or Connectors).
- Select Vidreno, then open its Connection or Connected accounts section or its menu, and choose Disconnect. Removing or uninstalling the connection does the same job.
Once disconnected, ChatGPT has no way to reach your Vidreno account. Your videos are untouched. You can connect again whenever you like, and you'll go through the same sign in and approval screen.
Other AI apps have their own settings for removing a connection; look for their MCP server or connector list. If you can't get into an app to disconnect it, get in touch with support and we'll help.
