On Demand lets you sell and rent your films directly to viewers. You set the price, and this article explains exactly where each dollar goes so there are no surprises when your first sale lands.
The short version
For every sale, two things come out of the price before tax, in this order:
- The payment processor's fee comes off first. It is roughly 4% plus 40 cents per sale, and can be a little higher for some cards and some countries.
- Vidreno's share: 10% of what is left after that fee.
The other 90% of what is left is yours. Vidreno never takes its 10% on the processor's fee. There's no monthly fee for On Demand and it works on every plan, including Free.
A worked example
Here's what you can expect at a few common price points. The processor fee below uses the typical rate, so your real figure may move by a few cents either way.
| Price | Processor fee (about) | Left after the fee | Vidreno keeps (10% of what is left) | You receive (about) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $1.00 | $0.44 | $0.56 | $0.06 | $0.50 |
| $2.00 | $0.48 | $1.52 | $0.15 | $1.37 |
| $5.00 | $0.60 | $4.40 | $0.44 | $3.96 |
| $10.00 | $0.80 | $9.20 | $0.92 | $8.28 |
Because part of the processor fee is a fixed 40 cents, very low prices leave you with a smaller slice. At $1.00 you keep about half the price. At $5.00 and up you keep close to 80%. Keep that in mind when you choose a price.
When you type a price in the film editor, the line underneath shows your estimated payout straight away, so you can try a few numbers before you publish.
Sales tax
Buyers in some countries and states have to pay sales tax or VAT. That tax is added on top of your price at checkout and sent to the tax authority. It never comes out of your share, and it doesn't change what you receive.
So a $5.00 rental bought by someone in a country with 20% VAT costs them $6.00, and your payout is worked out from the $5.00.
Why the exact amount can differ from the estimate
The processor tells us the real fee for each sale once the payment settles, and your balance is credited using that real figure (Vidreno's 10% is recalculated from it too, since it is a share of what is left after the fee). Most of the time it matches the estimate to the cent. Occasionally it's a few cents higher, usually because the buyer used a card issued in another country.
Refunds
If a purchase is refunded, the buyer loses access to the film and the full amount that was credited to you for that sale is removed from your balance. The processor keeps part of its fee on a refund; Vidreno covers that, so you're never charged more than you were paid.
When the money reaches you
Each sale is credited to your earnings balance as soon as the payment is confirmed. Open Payouts (under Account in the sidebar) to see every sale with its price, the processor fee, Vidreno's 10% of what is left and what was credited, alongside any ad earnings. Film sales and ad earnings share the same balance and the same payout flow: add your PayPal or bank details on the Payouts page (you can do this before your first sale), and once your available balance reaches the minimum you can request a payout from there. Each sale clears a few days after the payment is confirmed.
