Connect an AI assistant to Vidreno and manage your hosted videos through conversation. This overview explains what the connection does and helps you choose the right setup guide.

What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets an AI app use tools from another service. Vidreno provides tools for your hosted video library. Once you connect and approve access, your assistant can use those tools when you ask it to do something.
You don't need to install a server or write code. The AI app opens Vidreno so you can sign in and approve the connection.
Before you connect
- You need a Vidreno creator account. Connecting isn't restricted to a paid Vidreno plan. Advertiser and viewer accounts can't connect.
- You need an AI app that lets you add a remote MCP connection. Its plan limits and workspace rules still apply. The individual guides explain the requirements for ChatGPT and Claude.
- Your usual Vidreno storage limits and account restrictions still apply. Connecting an assistant doesn't add storage or bypass those limits.
What can an assistant do?
| The connection allows | The connection does not allow |
|---|---|
| List and search your hosted videos and read their details | Access another creator's account or videos |
| Rename videos, edit descriptions and change visibility, player colour or category | Access Vidreno on Demand films or their sales |
| Get embed codes with player options | Read billing, invoices, payment details, earnings, payouts or advertiser data |
| Read your account summary and hosted video analytics | Send a video file back to you through the chat |
| Start an upload through a personal browser upload link (ChatGPT can also upload a video attached in the chat) | Bypass your storage limits |
| Delete a video after explicit confirmation | Delete a video without confirmation |
Changes happen in your real library, just as if you made them in the dashboard. Deleting a video is permanent. Read deleting a video before asking an assistant to remove one.
Uploads work differently depending on the assistant. In ChatGPT you can attach a video to the chat and ask for it to be uploaded, because ChatGPT can pass the file on to Vidreno. Claude can't do that: attaching a video in Claude doesn't upload it. Instead, Claude gives you a personal upload link and you finish the upload in your browser. The same browser link is the route for any other AI app.
Sign in and review access
Vidreno uses OAuth, which means you sign in on Vidreno and approve access rather than giving the assistant your password. The approval page names the requesting app, shows the Vidreno account you're connecting and lists its permissions.
The permissions cover seeing your hosted videos, settings, embed codes and analytics, and changing or uploading hosted videos. Check both the app name and the account before choosing Approve. Choose Deny to cancel.
Only approve connections you started yourself. An assistant can make real changes to your videos, so review its requests carefully, especially deletion.
The assistant may receive your account email and username, video titles, descriptions, settings, thumbnails and analytics when needed for a request. That information is also handled under the AI provider's own privacy terms. Disconnecting stops future access; it doesn't erase information already included in your chats.
Connection details for other clients
Server URL: https://vidreno.com/mcp
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Transport | Streamable HTTP |
| Authentication | OAuth through your Vidreno account |
| API key, bearer token or custom headers | Not needed |
Other clients need support for remote MCP over Streamable HTTP and Vidreno's browser OAuth flow. Supporting MCP alone doesn't guarantee compatibility. Follow your client's documentation; this overview isn't a verified walkthrough for every client.
Disconnect when you no longer need access
Remove or disconnect Vidreno in the AI app's connector settings. The ChatGPT guide and Claude guide give the steps for each app. Your videos stay in Vidreno, and reconnecting requires signing in and approving access again.
