Earn

Get paid when people watch.

Earn is an optional way to make money from your films and hosted videos: advertisers pay to place dismissible ads on your player while people watch, in the formats you allow, and you keep a share of what they pay. Earn is in beta and earnings are not guaranteed.

  • Optional, per film or video
  • Ad formats you choose; pre-roll only if you turn it on
  • Paid out by PayPal with your film sales
  • Earnings are not guaranteed

How it works

Three steps, nothing to install

Earn uses the player you already have. You choose where ads may show and in which formats; advertisers pay for the placement; you keep a share.

01

Turn Earn on for the work you choose

Each film and each hosted video has its own Earn setting. Leave it on where you are happy to carry ads, choose which formats each title may show, and switch it off everywhere else, at any time.

02

Dismissible ads while people watch

When an advertiser’s campaign matches, an ad appears over the player in a format you allow — a small text banner, a brief image overlay, a card while paused or when the video ends: on your hosted videos and their embeds, on your film’s trailer and on free plays of your film. Never more than one at a time; viewers can close it, and the video keeps playing.

03

You earn per 1,000 counted views

Every counted view of an ad earns you a share of what the advertiser paid for that format. It is added to your balance on Payouts, next to your film sales, and cashed out by PayPal.

Spotlight: hand-picked placements

Mark a hosted video as Spotlight and advertisers can choose it by name for a campaign, instead of leaving the placement to the network. Spotlight placements have their own price per 1,000, shown in your dashboard. Spotlight is optional too, and off until you turn it on.

What you keep

The rate, in the open

One price for advertisers, one share for creators. These are the live figures: they are set by Vidreno, can change during the beta and this page always shows the current ones.

Advertisers pay

$10–$14 per 1,000 views

Charged against prepaid credit, per 1,000 counted views of an ad, priced per format.

You keep

70%

Of what is left after payment-processing fees.

Roughly yours

$6.65–$9.31 per 1,000

What reaches you at the current terms, per 1,000 counted views.

Advertisers pay $10–$14 per 1,000 views. You keep 70% after payment-processing fees — about $6.65–$9.31 per 1,000.

How the split works: the payment processor's fee on the advertiser's credit purchase comes off first (their actual fee; an assumed 5% where none is recorded), you keep 70% of the remainder and Vidreno keeps the rest to run the network. Only counted views earn: repeat and suspicious views are filtered out before anything is credited. Earnings are not guaranteed.

About the beta

Creator rates are deliberately low during the beta and will be raised once the beta ends.

Ads appear only while an advertiser is running a campaign that matches your work: with no active advertisers, no ads show on your videos and nothing accrues. That is expected, not a fault. We are still bringing advertisers on board during the beta, so please bear with us.

Access during the beta

  1. 1

Sign up (or sign in) as a creator: a Films account or a Host & Embed account both qualify, on any plan.

  2. 2

Open Earn in your dashboard and request access. One click; we see it straight away.

  3. 3

We review each request by hand and e-mail you when Earn is switched on for your account. From then on, counted views on work with Earn on are credited to you.

Until you are approved ads may still show on work with Earn on, but nothing is credited to you. Turn Earn off on any title if you would rather carry no ads in the meantime.

Payouts

Paid by
PayPal
Minimum cash-out
$10
Hold period
7 days

Ad earnings and film sales share one balance on Payouts. Earnings become available 7 days after they accrue; once your available balance reaches $10 you can request a payout to your PayPal account, and the history of every payout stays on the page.

Questions

Earn FAQ

Is Earn on by default?
Ads are on for new hosted-video uploads and off for anything you have switched off. Each film and hosted video has its own setting, and its own choice of formats, so you decide title by title. Your account defaults set which formats a title allows unless you choose otherwise for it. Turning Earn off stops new ads at once.
Who sees the ads?
People watching your hosted videos (including embeds on other sites), your film’s trailer and free plays of your film. Every ad sits over the player, is labelled as an ad and can be dismissed. A short skippable pre-roll plays before the video only on work where you have turned that format on.
Which ads can appear on my work?
Advertisers write their own ads: a square logo, a name, one line, a link and, for the image overlay, a picture. Vidreno’s content policy rules out adult, deceptive and illegal advertising, and we pause or remove any ad that breaks it. Advertisers can also hand-pick Spotlight videos for a campaign, which is how a sponsor can choose your work in particular.
What counts as a view?
Only counted views earn: repeat and suspicious views are filtered before anything is credited, so the number you earn on is lower than the raw play count. Your Earn dashboard shows the counted impressions and clicks per video.
How much will I make?
That depends on how many people watch, how many of those views are counted and how much advertiser demand there is for your work: earnings are not guaranteed. What you can rely on is the rate: Advertisers pay $10–$14 per 1,000 views. You keep 70% after payment-processing fees — about $6.65–$9.31 per 1,000. Those figures are set by Vidreno, can change during the beta and are always current on this page and in your dashboard.
When do I get paid?
Ad earnings mature 7 days after they accrue and then count towards your available balance. Once that balance reaches $10 you can request a payout from Payouts, and it is sent to your PayPal account. Film sales are paid out the same way, from the same balance.
Why do I need to request access?
Earn is in beta and we approve creators by hand. Request access from your Earn dashboard; we e-mail you when it is switched on. Until then ads may still show on work with Earn on, but nothing is credited to you.
