Independent films on the big screen

The Vidreno app for Apple TV will bring the films you bought, rented or found free to your living room, protected films included. Coming soon; the desktop app for Mac and Windows comes first.

For Apple TV (tvOS). Sign in with your Vidreno account; nothing to re-buy.

What it will do

The same films, coming to tvOS

Your Vidreno account, your purchases and rentals, and every free film: one library wherever you sign in.

Your library on the TV

The films you bought or rented and any free film, in a player built for the remote: browse, play and pause without leaving the sofa.

The picture the filmmaker made

The same streaming versions as the website, up to 8K, 60 fps, 10-bit when the source allows, adapting to your connection.

Protected playback

Films whose filmmaker switched "Protect this film" on will play through Apple FairPlay, inside the Apple TV's secure media pipeline.

Protected films

Protected films will play here too

Filmmakers can switch "Protect this film" on for any film. The apple tv app will play those with hardware-backed protection (FairPlay), so screenshots and screen recordings of the player show black on supported devices.

Where protected films play

Protected films will play first in Safari on Mac and the Vidreno desktop app for Mac. The Windows desktop app, the Apple TV app, the mobile app for iPhone and iPad, the mobile app for Android and Chrome, Firefox and Edge follow; until then those show a "not supported here" message rather than an unprotected stream.

Until then

The desktop app for Mac and Windows comes first. Free films and unprotected films keep playing on the website in any browser, as they do today.

How content protection works

Until the app arrives

The apple tv app is coming soon. Films play on the website today, and the desktop app brings them to your Mac or PC.
